Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani

Synopsis : Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani (1946) is a biographical drama that tells the inspiring true story of Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis, an Indian physician who volunteers to serve in China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Leaving behind his home and family, Kotnis joins a small Indian medical mission sent to aid Chinese soldiers and civilians suffering under Japanese invasion. In the war-torn region of Yenan, he faces extreme hardships—overcrowded field hospitals, constant shortages, and deadly epidemics. Amid these struggles, he meets a Chinese nurse named Ching Lan, with whom he develops a deep bond that blossoms into marriage, symbolizing friendship between India and China. Driven by compassion and duty, Kotnis works tirelessly to treat the wounded and fight disease, even experimenting on himself in search of a cure. His health deteriorates from exhaustion and infection, and he ultimately dies in China, far from home. The film closes on a poignant note, as Ching Lan and their child carry on his memory. Through this story of sacrifice, love, and humanitarianism, Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani celebrates international solidarity, medical heroism, and the enduring spirit of selfless service.
