Synopsis : Mahima Alekha follows the journey of Mahima sadhus and disciples to Mahima Gadi, Joranda, Odisha, where they gather each year during Magha Sukla Chaturdashi and Purnima. This pilgrimage forms the film’s central thread, interwoven with reflections on Mahima Dharma and its spiritual founder, Mahima Gosain. Emerging in the 19th century within Bisudha Adwaita Bada, Mahima Dharma is a reformist movement devoted to the formless—rejecting idols while emphasizing simplicity, self-realization, and the Absolute beyond image. The film immerses viewers in ascetic practices, rituals, and chants, enriched by the metaphysical verses of Bhima Bhoi, the blind mystic-poet whose words echo as the philosophical soul of the sect. Visually, the film translates formless divinity through elemental imagery—skies, fire, chants, and silences—turning the unseen into a contemplative experience. Bhajans and conversations weave layers of metaphysical thought, guiding audiences from ritual to meditation. Yet, Mahima Alekha also confronts the sect’s contemporary reality, where modernity, consumerism, and shifting social values test the resilience of timeless ideals. More than a chronicle, it becomes a cinematic exploration of faith and transformation—where silence and song, tradition and change, absence and presence converge.
