Synopsis : Barobabu is a biopic inspired by Shishirkumar Bhaduri, a towering figure in Bengali theatre, though it avoids a strict chronological retelling. The film explores emotional and artistic struggles of a man torn between his passion for the stage and personal turmoil. Once an English professor, Shishirkumar transformed Bengali theatre with realism and bold adaptations influenced by Rabindranath Tagore. His personal life was marked by conflict—haunted by his wife Usha’s suicide and emotionally entangled with actresses Prabha Devi and Kankabati. Struggling with loneliness and failed attempts to promote Bengali drama abroad, he ultimately rejects state recognition. The film portrays his introspection, pain, creativity, and late-life connection with admirer Soumitra Chattopadhyay.
